Sport Injuries

Sports injuries are a serious matter and should be treated with caution. Over 1,000,000 people of the ages between 5 and 14 die each year from sports injuries. Which is why I think sports should use more protective gear. Especially in rough sports like football and hockey. Not to mention baseball and soccer. The signs of injuries can be traced from inflammation or even swelling.

One reason I support this topic is because back in 2009, a Toronto Blue Jays hockey player named Mikhail Grabovski, was playing in a game against the fierce Boston Bruins. As Mikhail Grabovski was racing at excelling speed down the ice to the Bruins goal he was tail-ended by Zdeno Chara, the Bruins defense man. Mikhail was knocked into the glass screen face first. He ended up on the ground struggling to get up. He stood up lightheaded, but still conscious. Mikhail decided to retire for the night. He learned that he had a concussion. Imagine, if the Toronto Blue Jays player did have more protective gear. He wouldn’t have had the concussion and he wouldn’t be this much closer to death

Another reason I support this topic is because most coaches don’t know the signs of injuries, like inflammation or swelling. Like back in 2005, a Colorado high school football player suffered a concussion, but because no one knew the signs of injuries, no one knew he had suffered a concussion, even him! He then died at his next game after taking a hard tackle by another high school football player, after he was running across the football field hoping to reach the touchdown zone. He was then in a blink of an eye on the ground, with no movement, not even a twitch. The crowd was in shock, maybe even flabbergasted. He was rushed to the hospital and died about two hours later.

Finally, sports injuries usually happen in hockey and football, the two most aggressive sports in America, well at least in my opinion. Sports injuries usually don’t kill NFL or NHL players because of the fact that they’re used to getting tossed around like an old dish rag in sports. But, in some cases sport injuries could be fatal to NFL or NHL players not to mention MLB or FIFA. Sport injuries mostly happened to children of the ages 5 to 14, with a sad amount of 1,000,000 kids of those ages each year of sport injuries. But, usually the 10-14 group because of the sports getting more aggressive. Though, sport injuries can happened to sport pros like hockey all-star Sydney Crosby of Pittsburgh, who got slammed into the glass screen by Washington’s David Stockel.

To sum it up, sports should have more protective gear. So the amount of 1,000,000 kids of the ages 5 to 14 dying each year will go down. Also people should look for signs of injuries if it’s not possible to get more protective gear in sports. Sport injuries should also be treated with good treatment and caution.
